Silence and presence - How adult attitude affects the creativity of children (or how not to inhibit creativity in children)

Aim: The initial aim of the research was to concentrate on childrens creativity outdoors. However, analysis of our original data, as well as our mentors observation that in comparison with other nurseries, we were successful in the way we conducted outdoor activities with children, turned the research on its head. We decided to look at what it was that adults do, that impacts on the quality of childrens learning. Specifically we wanted to explore how adult attitude impacts on childrens creativity and explore our own approach to outdoor education.

Maths is good for you: teaching mathematics in a historical context

Aim: The prevailing modern view of mathematical ability is one which includes creativity and transcends the more limited concept of technical ability. There is, however, little widely available material which, in a simple and accessible way, introduces secondary school age children to the world of creative mathematics. This projects main aim was to bridge this gap.

Inclusion - "where do I fit in?"

Aim: To find out how perceptions held by mainstream pupils changed as a result of working alongside peers with Autism and severe and complex learning difficulties.

Science teaching and attitudes to health and environment

Aim: To examine the impact of primary science teaching on children's attitudes to, and understanding of, health and enviromental issues.

Teaching and learning Mathematics using an enquiry-based approach

Aim: The aims of the project were to answer the questions: What is an effective way to prepare to teach mathematics using an enquiry based approach? What would be the impact on pupil learning and attitudes of introducing an enquiry based approach to mathematics teaching in year 7?

From theory to practice: using an enquiry approach in a network of schools to improve students' self-esteem

Aim: To explore the potential of using common enquiry strategies across a network of schools and to involve pupils in the enquiry process.

Extending Children's Spelling Strategies

Aim: To investigate the medium-term effectiveness of raising spelling achievement through teaching the structure and process of cued spelling.
