Four FE colleges in different parts of England explored strategies for leading the local education system in preparation for greater devolution to city regions following the model started in Greater Manchester. Through the lens of various leadership methodologies (but particularly Design Thinking) our college leaders worked with key stakeholders to flag the opportunities, the challenges and some ways forward

Philippa's presentations were part of the conference dedicated to Knowledge-intensive Governance, Innovation and Chance; looking at how knowledge in and about education is created, mediated and used, and the adequacy of such knowledge bases to fulfil the many demands being made of them. This part of the conference focused particularly on the demands for knowledge created, mediation and use that can feed into innovation and systems of decision-making and policy change.
Philippa's first presentation titled 'How is knowledge in and about education effectively created, mediated and used? How effective are our systems for making use of it?' drew findings and conclusions from CUREE's extensive research into how knowledge is created and used. On Saturday 24th June, Philippa and Paul attended the 'Teacher Research Conference' at Sussex University.
Philippa presented a keynote on "Making research work for teacher, for students, for leaders and the system". In her presentation Philippa highlighted the consistent evidence about the contribution of research to learning; something that we at CUREE are particularly passionate about.
