What really works? Evidence for effective curriculum implementation
The Review of the National Curriculum will offer new perspectives on current content. CUREE and HTI are pleased to offer a one day session for policy makers at National, Regional and local levels to help the system prepare and build capacity for responding confidently and effectively to whatever challenges the new curriculum brings. Based on large scale research involving more than 15,000 learners, 334 schools and 273 teachers, and an analysis of the international evidence, this research explores the implementation of the curriculum in the UK from 2007-2010. This one day session will put colleagues with responsibility for policy making in touch with key evidence about what makes a difference in ensuring that all forms of curriculum organisation are accessible to and effective for all of our students, especially those who are vulnerable.
Colleagues participating in the day will explore;
· 7 key features of curriculum implementation linked to benefits for pupils in the international evidence;
· Clarity about what’s involved in securing appropriately challenging curriculum experiences for all students – and about the concerns of teachers in the UK about doing this;
· A detailed picture of highly effective curriculum implementation practice in England whilst ensuring:
o well being and learning relations;
o curriculum experiences that are effective in Closing the Gap for vulnerable learners;
o participation and engagement; and
o effective management of curriculum change, and development of subject knowledge through CPD;
The Seminar will be hosted by Anita Wheeler of HTI. Other presenters include:
o Philippa Cordingley; CUREE Chief Executive;
o Professor Mark Hadfield; Wolverhampton University
o Alison Peacock ; Head of Wroxham School and other headteachers whose outstanding practice features in research including; and
o Natalia Buckler from CUREE who had a significant role in conducting the research.
All technical reports of this research will be lodged in the Public Archive by DFE in due course. Reserve your place on this seminar now to access the research directly and in the context of current national, regional and local policy. There will also be time for exploring with other local, regional and national policy makers the implications of this evidence and for understanding what it means from an employer and industry perspective.
