CUREE is evaluating the Sing Up programme, working with the Sing Up Consortium (Youth Music, The Sage Gateshead, Faber Music and AMV-BBDO). Sing Up is a national initiative aimed at increasing the presence of singing in English primary schools and community organisations, by developing and running a large number of diverse projects to encourage singing amongst children. A key feature of the programme is the specialised CPD in singing for teachers and community leaders.
Using the evidence from numerous Sing Up projects as well as the data from several multi-method case studies, CUREE is synthesising the outcomes and learning emerging across the programme. Some of the themes that are being explored include:
· Children’s musical learning and development
· Links between participation in singing and improved health and wellbeing
· The impact of singing on learning across the curriculum
· Singing and the development of speech, language and communication
· Development of young singing leaders
· Professional development of school practitioners and musical professionals
· Working in partnership with others
