My session at the forthcoming SSAT conference aims to help school leaders, teachers and CPD facilitators use the new Standard for CPD to create a dynamic and coherent environment for continuing professional development and learning. We will be concentrating on Ofsted’s frequently repeated challenge to schools to evaluate the impact of CPD more effectively; and looking at ways of doing this that also enhance the quality of the process for teachers and for their pupils.
Here’s a mini blog that I hope will tempt you to join us!
Leaders need a holistic view of their school if they are to set priorities that will truly accelerate learning for all of their pupils and especially for the most vulnerable, says Philippa Cordingley
Hang on, I hear you say, haven’t I just had an e-news from you? Yes you have, we have sheepishly to reply. But that was the regular end of term communiqué full of serious and useful info. This, on the other hand, is the Xmas edition, light hearted and full of cheer! And I am going to try really hard to put an optimistic spin on escaping from the dark and turbulent 2016 into the sunny uplands of 2017. Let me know how I make out.
This recently published research report [http://ies.ed.gov/ncee/pubs/20164010/pdf/20164011.pdf] provides an account of the effects of a resource intensive CPD programme with a very specific focus and a plausible sounding theory of change. It was sustained, over a year, although the lion’s share (85%) took place over the summer (holidays?).
To accompany the release of the New Standard for CPD, Philippa Cordingley has produced a special blog which can be found below. Read the the New Standard at www.gov.uk/government/publications/standard-for-teachers-professional-development

Putting the pedal to the metal: Gaining momentum in accelerating pupil progress
I always enjoy ResearchEd but the London conference on Saturday really broke previous records for sessions I was keen to get to - tricky decisions at every point!
