CUREE supporting colleagues in charitable activities

CUREE has strong values and a commitment to equality and improvement for all. As an employer, CUREE, encourages and supports staff to make a positive contribution to the community and makes available some funds for employees that are taking part in or organising charity events.

Wear it pinkCUREE particularly makes donations to charities that are focused on learning and charities that take account of research. The sustainability of activities is also important and where possible CUREE likes to get to know the charity and see how support and funds have impact both in the short-term and over the longer term too.

Some CUREE colleagues have been volunteering for many years such as Kate Holdich who volunteers for Riding for the Disabled. The PowerPoint (3.2MB) shows the benefits for children with special needs at Ashmount School. Further information on the benefits of riding for children with special needs can be downloaded here (word document, 47.5KB).

CUREE colleagues have taken part in special action days which including dressing in some very natty attire and CUREE donated to Action Research, Jeans for Genes, Children in Need and Wear it Pink.

Staff at CUREE recently took part in Time4Tea in April and managed to raise some money. Meningitis now do this by funding research, raising awareness and providing support. You can find out more about Meningits Now by visiting their website: http://www.meningitisnow.org/. Colleagues at CUREE made a huge number of cakes which came in a variery of flavours and shapes. A large amount of fun, and calories, were had by everyone involved!

Staff at CUREE took part in Hats for Headway day in May and managed to raise £200. Headway’s mission is to promote understanding of all aspects of brain injury and to provide information, support and services to people with a brain injury, their families and carers. Headway is a charity that Laura Smith in particular likes to support after suffering a brain injury just over three years ago. They offered some fantastic support and advice that has helped her to where she is today. Colleagues at CUREE donned all sorts of hats in all shapes, colours and sizes. Great fun was had by all!

On the 31st July some of the CUREE team took part in a charity bike ride to raise funds for the Brainhouse Academy, a school in Nairobi, Kenya which supports orphans to get an education. The event was organised by Alison Halford, our Assistant Director and there were around 60 cyclists riding and raising funds. Over £4000 was raised which will make a massive difference to the wellbeing of the students at the school and their life chances. Click here to see more.
